Truck driver arrested after 38 Syrians found stowed in container from Iran
Port authorities in Igoumenitsa on Greece’s northwestern coast on Saturday arrested an Iranian truck driver who attempted to board a ferry to Italy while carrying 38 Syrian nationals in a sealed container.
The truck’s log revealed that it had started off in Iran and that the 38 migrants were sealed into the container there.
No injuries were reported.
All 38 of the Syrians, who did not have travel papers, have been taken into custody for processing.
