Seven suspects arrested over Athens-based job scam

Seven people have been arrested and two more are being sought in connection with a fraud ring that was operating in Athens.

The members of the ring are believed to have posted advertisements for jobs abroad in newspapers and on websites and demanded between 150-300 euros from applicants, ostensibly to get the process started.

When the job never transpired, members of the gang would threaten victims if they said they would report them, police said on Monday.

It is believed that the suspects, who face fraud and tax evasion charges, netted more than 120,000 euros.
