Self-destructive tradition

Back in the days when socialist PASOK was the country’s main opposition, led by George Papandreou, the party never missed a chance to proclaim its intention to renationalize OTE telecom and change the agreement with Cosco regarding Piraeus port.

When the party rose to power it realized that governing a country requires continuity and that serious obligations and commitments do not change depending on who is in charge.

Today, the main oppostion SYRIZA party has adopted the same strategy, allying with figures who played a key role in developing the irresponsible position adopted by Papandreou. Certain members of the left-wing party gone so far as to publicly threaten those managing projects of major strategic and national importance, such as the Trans Adriatic Pipeline for natural gas, thus continuing a sad and self-destructive tradition that discourages serious investors and tarnishes Greece’s image abroad.
