Zaroulia to remain under house arrest

The Council of Appeals Court Judges on Wednesday ruled that Golden Dawn MP Eleni Zaroulia, the wife of detained party chief Nikos Michaloliakos, was to remain under house arrest pending trial over charges of running a criminal organization.

The decision was reached following a dispute between the two special magistrates, Ioanna Klapa and Maria Dimitropoulou, leading an investigation into the ultra nationalist party and prosecutor Isidoros Dogiakos. While the two magistrates had called for Zaroulia to be placed under house arrest, the latter had proposed for her to be remanded in custody. Zaroulia will be allowed to attend Parliamentary business but has been banned from leaving the country. She has denied all charges.

Meanwhile, the two magistrates ordered another two Golden Dawn MPs, party spokesman and Nikos Michos to make additional depositions on Thursday. Both are facing charges over arms possession, while Michos also faced additional charges for drug possession.

Michaloliakos and fellow GD lawmakers Christos Pappas and Yiannis Lagos were scheduled to face the magistrates on Friday.
