Index tops 1,250 pts on low volume

The main index of the Greek bourse climbed above the 1,250-point level on Thursday on a fourth straight day of gains, although declining stocks edged out those that rose and trading activity was significantly reduced.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,254.21 points, adding 0.50 percent to Wednesday’s 1,247.92 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 0.54 percent to close at 405.97 points, while small-caps again headed the other way, giving up 0.66 percent.

Folli Follie led the blue chips with 3.32 percent growth, ahead of Hellenic Petroleum, which added 1.87 percent. Metka contracted by 3.53 percent and Intralot lost 1.97 percent.

In total 54 stocks posted gains, 58 took losses and 23 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 95 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 125.3 million, largely a result of the long weekend ahead for the US markets.
