Greece retains Quality Flag State status

The Greek flag is among those considered to be of the highest quality in the world, with the vessels on the Greek register being among the most cutting-edge in the global seas.

This is evident in the US Coast Guard’s recognition of Greece as a Quality Flag State for another year (2015) on the strength of the exceptional performance recorded in inspections of Greek vessels at various ports. In the last three years the rate of Greek-flagged ships to be detained was below 1 percent, which is a key condition for the US authority to issue the Quality Flag State qualification.

The Greek register therefore maintains its position as a member of the Qualship 21 program that started in 2001 and is aimed at introducing a system for the assessment of quality and for the supply of incentives for ships bearing non-US flags and traveling to American ports.
