Suspects in armed robbery ring arrested

Five men aged between 25 and 35 and a 44-year-old woman were arrested Monday on suspicion of having committed at least 13 armed robberies in one year, making off with an estimated 47,000 euros in loot.

According to Monday’s police report, in each instance two to four different members of the gang would form teams to hold up bars, supermarkets, gas stations, OPAP betting agencies and other businesses, wielding Kalashnikov assault rifles and threatening violence.

Their faces and hands, according to the report, were always covered. They would then flee on motorcycles believed to have been stolen.
