Hospitals, ambulance service on skeleton staff Wednesday
Public hospitals, health centers and ambulance services will be operating with emergency skeleton staff on Wednesday as workers join a nationwide 24-hour strike organized by civil servants’ union ADEDY.
Public sector workers are protesting layoffs imposed by Greece’s international creditors as well as a new round of performance assessments heralded by the government, aimed at weeding out workers who are under-performing or who have received appointments and promotions without merit.
Central Athens is expected to come to standstill on Wednesday morning as workers from across the civil service stage protest rallies at Syntagma Square.
