Border guards arrest 21-year-old carrying 4 kg of cocaine

Guards at the Evzones crossing on Greece’s border with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old man after he was found carrying nearly 4 kilograms of cocaine hidden in his luggage.

The 21-year-old is said to have told police he had been supplied the drugs three days ago in Sao Paulo in Brazil by an unknown contact after being recruited by a Nigerian national to act as a mule for an international drug smuggling operation.

He had been told to enter Greece via FYROM with the cocaine hidden in his luggage, he allegedly told investigators. The drugs were found in special compartments sewn into five handbags.

According to a 2012 study, the street value of cocaine ranges between 35-120 euros per gram.
