Investors have little faith in stocks, bond

The failure of Portugal’s Banco Espirito Santo to pay its dues earlier this week continued to radiate jitters across European markets on Thursday, inflicting fresh losses on most Greek stocks. The Greek bond issue’s mediocre performance did not help matters either.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,151.48 points, losing 1.84 percent from Wednesday’s 1,173.01 points. All of the year’s gains have now been wiped out, as the index is 0.96 percent worse off than at the end of December. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted by 1.77 percent, closing at 370.50 points.

Titan Cement fell 4.31 percent, followed by Metka (down 4.24 percent) and Ellaktor (4.15 percent). Eurobank Properties rose 1.80 percent.

In total 35 stocks posted gains, 77 took losses and 15 were non-movers.

Turnover amounted to 150.5 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 157.7 million.
