International crises lead to stock losses

Events in Ukraine and Gaza weighed heavily on the mood at the local bourse on Friday, inflicting notable stock losses that nearly wiped out the week’s benchmark gains.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 1,158.24 points, declining 2.69 percent from Thursday’s 1,190.27 points. On a weekly basis it grew by 0.29 percent.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted 2.76 percent, closing at 373.41 points.

Piraeus Bank was the worst off among blue chips, shedding 5.52 percent.

In total 27 stocks posted gains, 83 headed south and 25 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 103.9 million euros.
