Venizelos denies rift with Samaras over foreign policy
Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos has attributed reports of differences between him and Prime Minister Antonis Samaras over foreign policy issues to detractors who would rather see New Democracy cooperate with the far right than PASOK.
“The reproduction of the strange theory regarding diverging views between the prime minister and the deputy prime minister, who is also foreign minister on such issues is carried out at a journalistic level by small cliques who are not happy at all about the cooperation between New Democracy and PASOK and make it clear they want ND to work with the far right in its various forms,” said Venizelos.
The foreign minister’s comment came after a question by independent MP Nikitas Kaklamanis regarding a dispute between Venizelos and a Cypriot MEP.
The PASOK leader insisted relations between Athens and Nicosia and between himself and Samaras continued to be excellent.
