Two ex-SDOE chiefs get more time for defense over ‘Lagarde list’

Two former heads of the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE), Yiannis Diotis (photo) and Yiannis Kapeleris, were on Wednesday given more time to prepare their defense against charges of breach of trust in connection with the so-called “Lagarde list” of possible tax cheats.

The former SDOE heads were given an extension until September 9, sources said.

Diotis, who was given a copy of the Lagarde list on a memory stick by former Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou, is alleged to have modified it and faces charges of stealing an official document.

Diotis’s predecessor Kapeleris, who Papaconstantinou gave a sample of 20 names from the list to investigate, faces charges of breach of faith.

Papaconstantinou was released on bail last month after appearing before a special judge who has been assigned to rule on whether he doctored the list.

A judicial council is to decide on whether he should face a special court.
