Minister mulls fixing food and drink prices at non-private beaches

The government is planning to fix the prices of food and drinks sold at state-owned and municipal beaches, Deputy Development Minister Gerasimos Giakoumatos said on Monday.

Speaking to Ant-1 TV, Giakoumatos said he was concerned about the cost families faced when they visit the beach.

A recent study by consumer group EKPOIZO estimates that the cost of going to a beach for a four-member family ranges from 30 to 60 euros.

Entrance starts at 4 euros for the Attiki Akti Vouliagmeni beach and reaches 25 euros at the Asteras beach complex. A couple with two children aged between 6 and 12 must fork out 16 euros to visit Attiki Akti and 76 euros for Asteras.

The average cost for a family visiting an organized beach in Attica is 37.60 euros while for two people the average expense is 22.75 euros.
