Tsipras discusses Cyprus with Anastasiades in Athens

The role of Greece and Cyprus as “pillars of stability and security in the region” was highlighted by SYRIZA chief Alexis Tsipras in comments made following a meeting with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades in Athens on Tuesday.

On the subject of the ongoing talks to reunite Cyprus, Tsipras expressed his concern regarding the “intransigence of mainly the Turkish-Cypriot and Turkish sides” as a new round of discussions appeared to have, so far, failed to bring any substantial results.

On Monday Anastasiades met with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and confirmed a lack of progress in the ongoing talks, blaming the impasse on Turkish intransigence.

Anastasiades also met with Greek Communist Party (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoubas and the leader of Independent Greeks Panos Kammenos on Tuesday.
