Municipal engineer dies in Thessaloniki following workplace accident
A 47-year-old mechanical engineer working for the Municipality of Thessaloniki died on Tuesday at the northern port city’s AHEPA hospital due to injuries sustained on the job on July 21, the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency has reported.
The father of four was rushed to the hospital following a workplace accident that left him with serious injuries. He had to have his spleen removed and was on life support in the intensive care unit when he passed away on Tuesday.
The circumstances under which the accident took place have not been made public, though the municipality has ordered an inquiry following allegations from the DAS union of city workers that it was due to inadequate safety measures.
A coroner is expected to examine the 47-year-old’s remains to determine the exact cause of death.
