Athens-Patra in just two hours

Commuters will be able to travel from Athens to the western port city of Patra by train in just two hours once the construction of the Suburban Railway (Proastiakos) section from Kiato to Rododafni is completed by METKA SA, the listed company that won the project’s tender. This is expected in 2017.

METKA offered a 178.24 percent discount to the original budget of 227.04 million euros, not including value-added tax.

METKA is expected to sign the contract for the project with state railway projects company ERGOSE over the next few days.

The work, which also includes supporting infrastructure such as byroads and bridges, is co-funded by the state budget through the Public Investments Program and by the European Fund for Regional Development as part of the 2007-2013 European Union funding period.

The project will have to be completed with 24 months from the signing of the contract, according to the terms of the funding.
