Two horses die of suspected poisoning in Epirus

Police in Epirus, northwestern Greece, are looking for the perpetrators behind the suspected poisoning of 11 horses belonging to a man who conducts riding tours at Acherontas River.

Ilias Markou, owner of the tour company, told Athens-Macedonia News Agency that he found two of his horses dead and another nine suffering spasms in the early hours of Friday.

Markou said that he saw rye scattered on the ground near the horses, which he believes contained poison.

He explained that when he put his horses to bed the previous night he had fed them only clover and oats.
