Police raid apartment used by Maziotis aide
An apartment raided Tuesday by the anti-terrorist squad in Patissia, near central Athens, belonged to a suspect who took part in armed bank robberies with terrorist Nikos Maziotis, police sources said.
The home on Michail Voda Street had been under surveillance for the last couple of weeks but was found to be empty when raided. Police believe the apartment was last used around six months ago and that it served as a safe house rather than a place to hide weapons or explosives.
The property was rented a year ago by a man using a forged identity card. Police do not believe that it was used by Giorgos Petrakakos, a 35-year-old alleged accomplice of Maziotis, but by another suspect who took part in some of the six bank raids the Revolutionary Struggle leader is thought to have carried out before his arrest in Monastiraki, downtown Athens, last month. Shortly after Maziotis was caught police published CCTV images of Petrakakos and other alleged accomplices.
Police sources said that fingerprints and DNA was found at the property and that these are now being analyzed.
