Ship runs aground off Oinusses but sea remains spill-free

There has been no pollution caused by a cargo ship that rang aground off the island of Oinousses in the northern Aegean, authorities said on Tuesday.

The Bahamas-flagged Marine Star started taking water on board on Monday and has been barred from continuing its journey for safety reasons.

None of the 20 crew members have been injured. The ship is carrying some 750 tons of fuel but there have been no leaks so far. The coast guard is on standby to limit the effects of a possible spill.
