Firemen battle blaze in woodland on Rhodes
A large firefighting unit comprising 30 firemen handling 13 fire engines as well as five water-dropping aircraft and two helicopters was dispatched on Wednesday to contain a large blaze that broke out on forestland in northwestern Rhodes, close to the village of Soroni.
There had been no reports of residential areas being threatened by the blaze by late last night despite strong winds fanning the flames.
