Public officials expect Thessaloniki metro project to finish in 2018
The construction of the Thessaloniki metro is likely to be completed by 2018, according to the government’s public works general secretary, Stratos Simopoulos.
“Work on the Thessaloniki metro is now progressing satisfactorily,” he said.
“I do not want to sound overoptimistic but I think the pace of progress is good. The target of finishing the project in 2018 is achievable.”
The next obstacle to be overcome is a legal wrangle between the construction company carrying out the project and the government.
The former argues that there have been a number of changes to the original plan it agreed to.
It is seeking more than 560 million euros in damages.
The first of the suits it has filed is due to be heard on September 15.
