Athens benchmark registers sixth day of stock gains

The Athens stock exchange general index headed upward for a sixth consecutive day on Tuesday, rising by 1.56 percent to 1,177.35 points.

This means that the benchmark has risen by a total of 8.36 percent over the last six sessions.

There was a big increase in the turnover during Tuesday’s session.

It reached 92.84 million euros, compared to 44.7 million on Monday.

The large-capitalization index rose by 1.52 percent, with National Bank shares performing best on Tuesday.

They rose by 5 percent, followed by shares in METKA and Jumbo, which went up by 3.6 and 3.11 percent respectively.

Eurobank Properties posted the biggest fall among large-caps, dropping by 2.95 percent.

They were followed by the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) and Viohalco, which fell by 1.58 and 0.98 percent respectively.
