Rendi shootout leaves would-be hypermarket robber dead
An exchange of fire between two gunmen who held up a meat hypermarket in the area of Rendi, southern Athens, and officers of the police’s motorcycling unit DIAS late on Thursday resulted in the fatal injury of one of the suspects while the other was arrested, police said.
Police were called to the scene after the two men entered the store and threatened employees to empty cash registers.
Witnesses said the armed raid was the second in a week on the establishment in question.
The second robber remained in police custody on Friday.
