Court orders Greek gov't to rehire 10 sacked ERT workers

An Athens court of first instance ruled on Tuesday that the government was wrong to fire 10 employees of former public broadcaster ERT last year and that they should be given their jobs back.

The judge instructed the government to rehire the workers on the same salaries they received before ERT was shut down in June 2013, to be eventually replaced by a new broadcaster, NERIT.

The court also said it would fine the government 100 euros a day per employee if the 10 people in question are not taken on again.

In May, a first instance court in Iraklio, Crete, also ruled that the firing of another 20 ERT employees was illegal.
