Gov’t issues amendment to free public transport draft law

The government has added an amendment to a draft law on free public transport in Athens up to and including Sunday that means any fines that have been issued against unemployed people who have been caught fare-dodging will be scrubbed out.

Alternate Minister for Social Security Dimitris Stratoulis accepted the amendment, which was tabled by four SYRIZA MPs on Tuesday.

Also Tuesday, Alternate Minister for Citizens’ Protection Yiannis Panousis issued a decision that allows drivers who have their license plates removed for driving violations to claim them back from today so they can take part in Sunday’s referendum. It is customary for authorities to give back car and motorcycle licenses before elections.
