Drug makers fight shortages

Greek pharmaceutical companies can supply 70 percent of primary healthcare drugs if the banking system begins operating normally again, according to Theodoros Tryfon, the president of the Panhellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Industries.

The association has provided reassurances there is no danger of basic medicines being in short supply due to the current banking restrictions but Tryfon told Vima FM that Greece remaining in the eurozone would be vital for the full coverage of patients’ needs in the longer term.

“The Greek pharmaceutical industry can provide relief to patients at times of shortages and is prepared to do so now if the banking system resumes normal operations,” he said.
