Watchdog examines referendum coverage

TAGS: Referendum

The Greek National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) said on Tuesday that it is launching its own investigation into complaints by TV viewers last week that some stations were biased in their coverage of the referendum.

The move by the broadcasting watchdog follows a probe launched by a first instance prosecutor in Athens in the wake of a complaint that the electoral law was broken by TV channels allegedly trying to influence the outcome of the vote.

Also on Tuesday, a disciplinary panel at the ESIEA journalists’ union called nine TV presenters to face questioning about their coverage of the referendum and whether they had breached media ethics.
