Children’s charity claims magazine sellers are frauds

The Hamogelo tou Paidiou (Child’s Smile) charity has alleged that street vendors of magazines published by a group called Agonas yia to Paidi (Struggle for the Child) have been seeking donations from people in various Greek cities, claiming to be collecting on behalf of the charity.

The charity was informed about the alleged fraud by supporters in Thessaloniki, Pyrgos, Chios, Larissa and Corfu, who reported that fraudsters were seeking donations on behalf of the Child’s Smile by approaching potential benefactors in cafes.

It remained unclear how much money the alleged fraudsters have obtained using the Child’s Smile name but the organization discovered that a sum of 200 euros was recently deposited in its account recently, an apparent attempt by the fraudsters to avert legal action.

The Child’s Smile said it was taking legal action.
