Greek teachers’ union gets first woman chief

A woman has been elected as president of the secondary school teachers’ union (OLME) for the first time in the organization’s 90-year history.

The honor goes to Eleni Zografaki-Teleme, who will now head the union which represents some 120,000 teachers.

Also in a first, three women were elected to OLME’s 11-member executive board.

Despite the fact that 53 percent of secondary school teachers in Greece are women, OLME had only had male presidents up until now.
