An agreement signed on Thursday by officials of the Citizens’ Protection Ministry and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels foresees the creation of a Visitors’ Bureau in central Athens that will provide tourists with useful information and seek to deal with complaints regarding issues of public order.

The bureau is to be based in Klafthmonos Square, covering most of the square, and will be staffed by police officers who are fluent in English and other languages and have experience serving in the tourist police, Kathimerini has learned.

Their duties will include providing information to tourists and recording any complaints regarding “issues of police interest,” according to the agreement which was signed by the general secretary of the ministry, Dimitris Anagnostakis, and the head of the hoteliers’ chamber Giorgos Tsakiris.

The chamber is to provide the equipment for the bureau, which is to be up and running in a month, and to undertake the advertising of the service.
