Fuel trader blames blast on smuggler

A fuel trader whose home in Vouliagmeni, southern Athens, was targeted late on Monday by unidentified assailants with sticks of dynamite, has blamed the attack on a Turkish tobacco smuggler, according to police.

The dynamite went off in the businessman’s garden at 11.35 p.m., blowing out the windows of his home and damaging the garden fence, police said.

The fuel trader and his family had been at home at the time but were unharmed.

Bomb disposal experts collected the remnants of the dynamite for analysis, according to police who said two men were seen leaving the area in a van.

The fuel trader has been targeted in the past too. In September 2013, a man broke into his home and shot him in the head, an attack which led him to lose an eye.
