Crete shooter moved to Athens prison amid feud fears
A 25-year-old man from Crete suspected of shooting a 24-year-old in a family feud will be transferred to Attica’s Korydallos Prison for security reasons after facing a prosecutor in Hania on Thursday.
The gunman was brought to court at 7 a.m. amid fears of reprisals from the victim’s family.
The shooting appears to be linked to a 2011 incident when the victim’s father killed the gunman’s father.
The 25-year-old’s lawyer, Giorgos Perrakis, denied that his client intended to kill the victim, who is still in an induced coma. He also called on both families to try to ensure that there is no escalation of violence as part of the vendetta.
Doctors have started to reduce the medication that kept the 24-year-old in a coma and intend to bring him out of this state over the next few days.
