Public sector union plans protest rally in Thessaloniki on Saturday

Public sector union ADEDY is planning a rally in central Thessaloniki on Saturday to coincide with start of the city’s international fair, where the country’s leading politicians are expected to make pre-election speeches.

ADEDY is demanding the cancellation of Greece’s bailout agreement with international creditors and the write-off of the country’s debt.

“It is clear that we are looking at a new drop in public sector workers’ wages,” ADEDY said in an announcement in reference to the fiscal targets set out in the new memorandum.

SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras is due to address the Thessaloniki International Fair this Saturday, while New Democracy chief Evangelos Meimarakis is scheduled to speak a week later.

Meimarakis is also expected to hold a news conference the following day.
