Papastavrou answers bank deposit questions

Stavros Papastavrou, an adviser to former prime minister Antonis Samaras, claimed on Wednesday that he is the victim of defamation after he was called to answer questions in connection to a 5.5-million-euro bank deposit that appeared on the Lagarde list.

Papastavrou vehemently denies that the money was his or that he owns the company in whose name the deposit was made.

His lawyer said that he submitted a number of documents backing up Papastavrou’s claims to prosecutor Yiannis Dragatsis.

The lawyer also claimed that a recent investigation by the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) established that there is no issue of Papastavrou having evaded taxes.

Samaras’s adviser claimed the case against him is politically motivated.

Papastavrou has said in the past that the money belonged to Greek-Israeli businessman Sabby Mionis, who was a client of his.
