Twelve people, 8 Greeks and 4 foreign nationals, were arrested during an operation carried out earlier in the week in central Athens on drug relaged charges, Greek police announced on Thursday. All suspected were expected to face a prosecutor later on Thursday, the department said.

According to the police, during the operation, which took place on Tuesday, officers discovered various quantities of heroin, cocaine and crystalline methamphetamines, among other substances.

The operation was part of a large scale crackdown on drugs in the city center, especially in the neighborhoods of Kaningos, Vathis and Amerikis Squares, as well as areas surrounding the Athens Unversity, the police added.
