Kotzias to meet UN’s Cyprus mediator Eide in New York

Greece’s Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias is to meet the United Nations mediator for the Cyprus issue Espen Barth Eide in New York on Monday.

It is one of several meetings that Kotzias has lined up at the sidelines of the UN’s 70th general assembly. Kotzias is accompanying Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to a number of his meetings but is also due to hold separate talks with Prime Minister of Kosovo Isa Mustafa, as well as  and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci.

On Sunday, Kotzias met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari and Georgian Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

Kotzias’s talks with Eide are likely to focus on the latest round of reunification talks in Cyprus. Earlier this month, the Norwegian diplomat suggested that Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci might increase the frequency of their meetings.
