Missed opportunity
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras missed a major opportunity to reverse the feelings of strong distrust currently prevailing among global investors toward Greece.
The way in which Bill Clinton, former president of the United States, tried to present the Greek premier as a leader who is willing to do everything in his power to attract investment to his country at the annual Clinton Global Initiative conference, was impressive.
Unfortunately, Tsipras was caught up in all the familiar cliches and the image he put across of the country was not a particularly favorable one. Many people are still hoping for the Greek prime minister to develop into the Mediterranean region’s own version of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. This would require Tsipras himself to want this to be the case, to believe in it and promote the idea through words and, most of all, through action on the international stage.
So far, he has failed to do so.
