Greek businessman’s son released after arrest for unpaid taxes
The son of Greek businessman Thomas Liakounakos was released from custody on Thursday after being arrested over unpaid taxes earlier in the day, authorities said.
Sources indicated that following his arrest, Nikos Liakounakos provided evidence that his tax arrears had been settled with tax authorities.
His father, Thomas Liakounakos, was arrested Tuesday on charges of bribery and money laundering after a probe launched by a prosecutor found that an alleged 2-million-euro bribe for an airborne early warning system that Greece purchased in 1999 passed through an offshore company in his name.
Thomas Liakounakos was expected to face a prosecutor on Friday.
