Admission fees to museums, sites expected to rise
Admission fees at Greek museums and archaeological sites could rise as part of efforts made by the government to raise revenues for the Ministry of Culture’s Archaeological Receipts Fund.
According to Ministry of Culture sources, a specialized pricing committee has already suggested hikes in the price of tickets at several museums and sites across the country. The proposals were expected to be discussed at a Central Archaeological Council (KAS) meeting next week.
While EU legislation does not allow for a distinction between Greek and foreign visitors, authorities were examining the establishment of free admission days in the winter season.
According to ministry sources, the proposals tabled by the committee included admission to the Acropolis which is currently set at 12 euros to rise to 20 euros and entry to the National Archaeological Museum in Athens going from 7 to 10 euros, among others.
