No change to jobless rate in July

The unemployment rate remained unchanged in July, amounting to 25 percent. It was the same as in June despite the major increase in tourism.

The capital controls introduced in late June contributed toward that, serving as a hiring disincentive.

In July 2014 the rate had stood at 26.3 percent. Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) figures showed on Thursday that the number of the jobless came to 1,196,736, or 71,421 fewer than a year earlier.

The number of employed grew by 33,506 people within a year, reaching up to 3,591,407.

The unemployment rate remains higher among women, at 29.4 percent, than men, for whom it is 21.5 percent.
