Unionists to stand trial over illegal strike
Fourteen representatives of university administrative staff are due to go on trial on Monday after being accused of failing to comply with a court decision that ruled a 48-hour strike they held in November 2013 to protest the then government’s move to place them and their colleagues in a labor reserve illegal.
The suspects argued that they are being targeted because they are unionists and have called on colleagues to stage a one-day strike in a show of support.
Savvas Papadopoulos, one of the unionists on trial, said they had not abided by the judge’s ruling because the strike was ruled illegal, but not abusive, for technical reasons.
