Strengthening the center-right

The elections for a new chief for the New Democracy party are an important process that should not be allowed to degenerate into a beauty pageant or popularity contest.

What is important is that the conservative party takes the opportunity to renew itself, to reach out to society at large and to adopt contemporary ideas and policies.

It is also important that the process includes as many voters as possible and not just those from the party’s hard core of supporters.

We have all got into the habit of whining about the poor performance of the country’s parties and politicians as though we bear no responsibility whatsoever and are merely victims of fate. But the future rests in our hands and we need to take responsibility. So, anyone who understands the need for a strong center-right, pro-European party should vote in the elections for a new conservative chief.
