VAT hike keeps local hotels out of German travel brochures for now

Dozens of Greek hotels have been left out of German tour operator FTI’s first travel brochure for 2016, keeping them out of the major travel agency’s early bookings market for at least the first couple of months of next year.

German media attributed the omission to the increase in value-added tax on hotel accommodation in Greece.

High-ranking hotel group officials confirmed that, due to the VAT hike, there is an ongoing negotiations process between Greek hoteliers and foreign tour operator representatives concerning the level of prices for next year.
