Thursday’s strike action to affect museums, sites and transport

An increasing number of unions are joining forces with the country’s two main labor unions, GSEE and ADEDY, which have called a nationwide, 24-hour strike on Thursday in protest at austerity measures and controversial reforms mandated by Greece’s new bailout deal with international creditors.

Among the sectors that will be affected by the action are archaeological sites and museums, as well as all levels of the civil service, which will remain closed throughout the day.

Hospitals will be working with skeleton staff only, while public transport will also be disrupted, with service halted on the Athens metro, the Proastiakos suburban railway and the national rail network.

The only public transportation available in Athens on Thursday will be the ISAP electric railway and tram, running from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and buses and trolley buses, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
