SYRIZA MP Sakellaridis resigns ahead of crucial vote

Gavriil Sakellaridis, a SYRIZA MP and former government spokesman, resigned on Thursday.

His resignation came after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras asked Sakellaridis to step down in the wake of leaks suggesting that the latter would abstain from a crucial vote on prior actions in Parliament late Thursday.

The vote is expected to unlock a 2-billion-euro loan tranche and 10 billion euros for the recapitalization of Greek banks.

Sakellaridis is expected to be replaced by Alternate Minister for Administrative Reform Christoforos Vernardakis.
