An apology can go a long way
Admitting to mistakes is not only a healthy habit; sometimes it is entirely necessary.
In the case of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, this is something that he really should do before he seeks the support of the opposition parties in passing legislation pertaining to the controversial reforms of the country’s social security and pension system being demanded by international creditors.
When he was in the opposition, Tsipras was responsible for dynamiting the political system at every given chance, stirring the public and unions into taking to the streets in protest and encouraging the public and vocal disapprobation of his political rivals.
Consensus at this point is not just necessary but crucial, and it is the only responsible path to take. But the prime minister would have a lot more credibility if he asked for support after an earnest and public expression of self-criticism.
