Thirteen charged in connection to Thessaloniki embezzlement
Anti-corruption prosecutor Achilleas Zisis issued breach of faith charges against 13 employees of three social security funds in connection to the ongoing investigation into the embezzlement of 17.9 million euros from the Municipality of Thessaloniki between 1999 and 2008.
The fund employees are alleged to have failed to report the nonpayment of social security contributions by the municipality. The funds allegedly suffered losses of 7.2 million euros as a result of the scam.
Former municipal treasurer Panagiotis Saxonis received a jail sentence of 20 and a half years for his part in the embezzlement of this money.
