Deal signed for Greek-Bulgarian gas pipeline
The agreement for the construction of Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), a gas pipeline between the two countries, was signed on Thursday in Sofia by the project’s stakeholders in the presence of the Greek energy minister, Panos Skourletis.
Skourletis said he expected the issue of the pipeline’s sustainability to be resolved soon and that construction would start in the latter half of 2016.
The plan is for gas to start flowing through the pipeline in the second half of 2018. Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria will carry gas from Azerbaijan, via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), as well as liquefied gas from the new terminal station set to be built at Alexandroupoli in Thrace.
