Actress Anna Synodinou, 88, dies

Acclaimed Greek actress and politician Anna Synodinou died in a private clinic in Athens on Friday. She was 88 years old.

A veteran stage actress, Synodinou also appeared in films and made brief, yet notable, appearances in Greek television series.

Born in Loutraki in 1927, Synodinou studied at the National Theater’s Drama school before taking on lead roles in ancient drama as well as Shakespearean stage productions.

She was elected to Parliament as a New Democracy deputy in 1974 and served as deputy minister for social security during the 1977-1981 period.

Her funeral will take place at the First Cemetery of Athens on Monday.
